Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior representative stated the attack rendered him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
